Join Downbeat Dance Fitness for a bellydance fitness class in the beautiful gallery space of Ikigai Studios. This workout won't just get you sweating, you'll learn classic bellydance moves in flow. You’ll gradually build up to more complex movements starting with the very basics – your feet! Everyone is welcome regardless of age, gender, appearance, and dance or fitness level. No experience necessary, just bring your enthusiasm and a water bottle.
About Bellydance
Raqs SharQui (often called bellydance) has its roots in the folk dances of the Middle Eastern, North African, and Hellenic regions. Over time, the dance evolved and was stylized as it was performed on stage, in nightclubs, and in cinema (particularly Egyptian cinema). Today, bellydance is loved across the globe and there are many fusions and sub-styles. It's known for its musicality, audience interaction, hip isolations, and dramatic costuming.
It's fun and artistic, but also gets you moving in ways that do the body good. By working on bellydance isolations, you'll build stamina, coordination, and mind-body connection. One participant even said that hip slides were the best exercise for releasing lower back tension that they've ever done!
What to Bring:
Comfortable workout clothes you can move in.
Cross-trainers or sneakers with low tread (perfect for pivoting!).
